Cole Group

February 1st, 2010
Due to some schedule changes there have been some adjustments to the group.  The group now cosists 3 guys: Joe Chappell, Ryan Cole, and myself (Chad Cole).  Ryan and I had an introductory breakfast this last Saturday to figure out the format/plan as we go into the new year.  We are tentatively going to begin an apologetics study in a book called Reasonable Faith by William Lane Craig. We are looking at augmenting our studies with Crazy Love. We will meet again this Saturday with Joe to finalize our plans and, hopefully, get the materials so we can jump in. I am already hearing good things from other guys about Crazy Love; Whatever we settle on, I am looking forward to the work God will do in all of our men in 2010!

Chad Cole (I) lead this week  as we discussed the issue of “The Sanctity of Human Life.”  Throughout the week we all looked through the scriptures, the science, and the sociological data to determine 1) what does the bible teach about the value/sacredness of human life. 2) what is society teaching about the value of human life? 3) How can the church do a better job of influencing society/ helping our brothers and sisters who may be dealing with some of these very difficult issues  -  The main social issues covered were abortion, euthenasia (assisted suicide), and contraceptive use. Granted, non of those terms are found anywhere in scripture; yet the bible gives clear principles that can guide us in addressing these topics.  The whole group was in attendance, which is always great!! In all, it was a great night to hang out, learn, encourage, and just have a good time. Looking forward to next week as Kevin Rietze leads in a study on “Judging others”

This past tuesday was a great week in small group. Ryan Cole led us in a discussion on the issue of “gay marriage.” We looked at the biblical point of view, the legal issues, and the sociological issues. Ryan chose the topic because the issue had been coming up recently on radio and will be coming up in the courts and polls in the near future. We wanted to make sure that we are able to intelligently discuss the issue with believers and secular friends as well.

On top of that it was great to see all the guys volunteer to help Ryan set up his new dining room set in his new apartment (a task that would have been pretty time consuming had Ryan done it alone). With the five of us working togeather, we were able to get Ryan set up in a relatively short amount of time. It was great to see how the whole group saw a need for a ‘brother’ and met that need!

- Productive night!”
